20: Pews

Pews - They are required for people to sit in during the mass.  They are often of wood and can be quite hard to sit on when the mass is lengthy

The pews originally were “owned” by individual parishioners, especially wealthy ones.  People sat in “their” pew every Sunday. 

There was a huge long pew outside the church running from the front gate to the Old School.  This was the pew for the coach drivers.  Parts of that pew are now here in the back of the church.
